Extra-Long Fall

I love Fall. It has been my favorite season since I graduated from undergrad and stopped getting summer break. I love the first feelings of cool and crispness, the glowing colors of leaves, and getting cozy with spiced and warm fall foods. Particularly pumpkin anything. One thing about Colorado is that there are beautiful yellow aspens to be seen and brisk mornings to wake you up, however, it is often in the 80's by the afternoon, even at the end of September. While 80 degrees is less than 90, it doesn't exactly make you want to curl  up with blankets, hot tea, and a pumpkin muffin. Lucky for me, Alaska does not cheat you out of Fall. The week leading up to the official first day of fall was cool and rainy and once September 21st or 22nd (whichever it was this year) hit, it was REALLY brisk. Red-nose (white fingers in my case), gloves, hat and down coat brisk. I have spent a lovely Friday off of work not feeling guilty whatsoever about staying cozy inside in my pajamas until noon and baking pumpkin cookies. (Until the oven wouldn't turn on and thinking it was because the propane was out, I went to get more propane, stopped by the FRIGID windy beach to let Hank run, retried the oven with my white fingers and it still didn't work).
Anyways, I am very content in my cozy little place with a bowl of pumpkin cookie dough in the refrigerator, and the first SNOW flurries flying around outside!
I thought I would share a few pictures of our little home in the woods so you all can picture how cozy it would be if you came to visit us in the winter:
Living room

Kitchen
Dining area (please notice my handy-work curtains)
Bedroom
View from the loft (the wasp-nest looking thing is an old glass buoy)

I do realize the sun is shining in these pictures, which I hear it does often in the winter. Good news. Just imagine yourself returning to drink hot apple cider in front of the windows after going on a nice little walk with this guy:

And enjoying all of these lovely fall colors!
Other than being lazy and working, I went to a country-western performance at the high school last night with some friends from work. The band was Riders in the Sky. Turns out they wrote and played the soundtrack to Toy Story and have even won some Grammys for it. It was four old cowboys with an accordion, a fiddle, a guitar, and a bass. It was very hokey and funny. I was considering asking them to play at our wedding until I found out they won two Grammys and realized they were a pretty big deal. For your enjoyment, here's some videos of what you missed in Homer last night:

Happy Weekend! Miss you all!
