Wait, I have to work?

After all of our exciting travels and a summer of sleeping in I forgot that the whole point of moving to Alaska is that I actually have to work! It was definitely difficult the first day to pry myself out of bed at 6am and leave Grant and Hank behind to go play on the beach. It's a good thing Grant was here for the first few days to remind me that I needed to pack a lunch (he made me a PB&J), to drop me off and pick me up from work so I could eat my breakfast in the car and to bring me my papers I forgot at home.

The first couple of days were just general hospital orientation and therefore quite boring. I learned how to wash my hands, what to do if there's a fire, and all that fun stuff. Friday I actually got to start treating patients. While I was a little nervous at first since I haven't seen a patient since May, once I got going it all came back to me. I know this is totally nerdy but I must say I had a great time yesterday and I'm actually excited to go back on Monday! That's a good sign, right!? What is even better is that the funding for the new pediatric therapy space in the hospital just got approved and so I along with the pediatric OT and speech therapist get to help decide what equipment we need and design the space! Not a bad gig for just graduating I'd say.

Hiking the Diamond Creek Trail to the beach

Grant and Hank have had some quality time together while I've been working and have been enjoying the beaches and trails around town. Grant actually gets some time to sit and read a book in between tug-of-war games with Hank which is really good for him since he's usually so busy.
Delicious Alaskan bounty-King Salmon and mussels

Grant super excited for our mussels and local mead from the Ring of Fire Meadery in Homer
Conclusion: our Mead is right on target
We're hoping we might actually get internet at the house on Monday so maybe I can add some pictures then. Grant is heading back to CO for a couple months tomorrow night so I'm going to make the most of his last couple of days here and go try to find a moose so I can see one and have him to fight it off if need be.
