Day 6: Glennallen, AK to HOMER, AK

WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leaving Glenallen
Fog cloud
Glenn Highway

Turnagain Arm just south of Anchorage

Entering the Kenai Peninsula!
Seward Highway
Kenai River
After 6 days of driving between 12-14 hours each day (and 8 today), we are so so so happy to be here! We decided Hank should be with it when we got to our new home so we chose to use Benadryl instead of the heavy sedatives today. Big mistake. He went absolutely crazy and pawed us the entire way today like a little kid saying "are we there yet?" every 2 minutes. My job was to keep him in the backseat and we eventually had to tie him back there he was so anxious. Comparison of Hank sedated vs. on Benadryl only:

(Imagine Hank's face with only the reds of his eyes showing because his upper lids are so heavy, somewhat Devil Dog-like.)

(Imagine Hank panting 300 times per minute, shaking uncontrollable, swatting us with his giant paws.)

How we managed to entertain him-Smartfood Popcorn

After 6 hours of this he was worn out and managed to fall asleep sitting on our bags for the last bit to Homer.

(Imagine Hank with his bottom on the duffel bag, back legs straight out under him, front feet on the ground passed out cold)

Once we got to our house he went nuts prancing around the grassy yard and tentatively sniffing the big trees. He even went up and down the 8 porch stairs by himself, although he was not impressed with the wood floors inside and refused to walk anywhere there was not a rug on the floor. Easy to control where he goes at least. We unloaded the UHaul in the rain and decided we deserved a celebratory dinner out. We went to a great restaurant called the Mermaid Cafe that some co-workers had recommended. We had fresh oysters straight from Kachemak Bay which were the first oysters that I've actually truly enjoyed, scallops from Kodiak, and prawns from somewhere else nearby.

All the dirt got washed off by the rain

Our new home
I wish I could actually show you pictures of Homer because it is hard to imagine how sharp-peaked, snow-capped mountains could be coming straight out of the ocean and how the land can change from beach to dense forest in less than 1/2 a mile. If I can't find faster internet I guess everyone will just have to come visit us :)

We have a lot of unpacking and settling to do but we are so excited to be here and see what adventures lay before us! We will keep you updated and love to you all!

3400 miles down, 0 to go!!!
